Another question - I'm assuming these uses of opportunities are allowed?

Oh, also on duels! Per the wording on the "Focus" action and on the Mind's Edge Kata, I'm assuming the latter can be used while Focusing, right?

For reference:
Mind's Edge: "Activation: Once per scene, after you perform an action that does not require a check while in a Void stance.

Focus action: "As a Support action in Void stance, you may focus your energy inward, envisioning your action in your mind and seeking the perfect moment to take it. You must name a skill when you use Center.
Effects: Roll a number of Skill dice up to your ranks in the skill you chose and reserve any number of those dice. If you do, the next time you make a check using the chosen skill (or use the Center action) this scene, after rolling dice, you may replace any number of rolled dice with the reserved dice (set to the results they were showing when reserved). You cannot reserve a number of dice greater than your ranks in the skill this way.

Given the wording here, I get the feeling the intention is specifically that Focus is not a check, despite involving a (very weird, skill-only) roll? And therefore, that Mind's Edge is supposed to work with it?

Thanks! :)

Adsing another question here - I'm assuming the duels will be fought with either bokken or dulled katana (i.e. reduced deadliness) so we don't start killing or maiming each other? XD

Also! As a more general question, I assume duels to first strike or first blood often use dulled weapons in 5e, for much the same reason? Given how Finishing Blow works, duels with actual Katana sound like a terrible idea for anything no supposed to be absurdly lethal...

Practice duels are fought with bokken. Though I will note here that iaijutsu kata will still function in such a case (even though bokken lack the razor-edged quality)

Real duels, however, are fought with real katanas. You actually need the deadliness for First Blood duels since you need a crit of severity 5 or higher to win first blood. This how you also "accidentally" kill someone in such a duel. As I've noted before, be very very careful with katanas.

Oh god, I expect so much fuckery XD

Follow-up question to that - is the "double deadliness" for critical resulting from Finishing Blows optional, or is it mandatory?

I mean... That's the way I see many duels ending (although I might be wrong), so I kinda expect the number of blind or one-handed duellists will have increased quite a bit in 5e if that's not optional

Double deadliness is not optional, but the finishing blow is. So do you take the advantage of the gap and win the duel, but risk really hurting your opponent (Sure they get to resist with fitness, but theyr'e compromised so.....), or do you not take that chance and risk losing the duel?

Oh god XD Higher demographic of visual impairment and missing body parts among duellists it is then!
