[D3EM] In the Deer forest, do at the Deer (Open)

[Moto Mitsuki]

One should never disregard a local custom before having actually attempted at understanding it. While every clan had at least a just weird oddity with a convoluted historical background that makes way less sense nowadays, for the most part there was a very good reason for all their specifics.

So, as warm-up for the day, instead of her standard jog through the woods, Mitsuki attempted the Shika variant of it. She had been observing the route from above during her previous forays into the woods, and thought she had at least caught a few hints about it was organized.

Maybe, but that she didn't really mater as didn't even manage to climb up the initial tree. Which was to be expected, as having grown in a desert, tree climbing wasn't really something Mitsuki was used to.

But success is built up on the experience of failures, and she felt like she would get the gist of if, eventually, after a few more training sessions.

Raizo had a different goal in venturing into the forest.

He just wanted to look around.

See new things.

Like these mosses he'd never laid eyes on before.

I wonder if they dry out and burn the same way as the ones back home...
But nearby, he heard someone... failing to climb a tree?

[Moto Mitsuki]

Mitsuki was indeed picking herself up not far from here after a relatively controlled fall.

Her horse Avel, nearby, was watching her with what would have been a pretty infuriating mocking expression had it been on a human face.

She instinctively fixed up her clothes and hair, then looked around, expecting some Shika guard to also be watching with a coy smile. Instead, she found the Shiba she had a time-killing talk with the other day, the kind where a lot is said but not a lot is remembered. She actually had to rack her brain to remember as little as his name.

"Shiba Raizo-sama, how does the burgeoning day find you?"

[Shika Nesshin]

There was, in fact, a Shika, and he calls out "All okay?" a moment after he hears the fall. "Sounded like somebody dropped a log, there," he teases, indulging his passion for playfulness.

Nesshin walks up. "Seriously, though, everyone is well?"

Ah, it's the only Moto here...

"Shiba Raizo-sama, how does the burgeoning day find you?"

With actual plans involving other people for what I have to assume is going to be actual sex later.

"Pretty good, pretty good. You, Moto-san?"

Nesshin walks up. "Seriously, though, everyone is well?"

"No worries here, Shika-san."

Raizo bowed.

"This one is Shiba Raizo of the armies of the Phoenix. My charming companion is Moto Mitsuki, lately of the Khan's armies." A pause. "And no, this isn't some extremely small-scale wargame being played out on Deer territory..."

[Moto Mitsuki]

"You're joking, but there are rumors about a war-themed event in a couple of days, so I wouldn't be that surprised if they had us go through an actual mock battle.

You wouldn't happen to both know about that and be allowed to tell us Shika-sama?"

[Shika Nesshin]

"Shika Nesshin," replies the Deer with a bow. "A pleasure--and may I compliment Moto-san on her attire and its excellent color choice." He smiles before continuing.

"Unfortunately, I cannot speak to the events. Pei-Pei-sama was adamant about keeping the knowledge restricted. 'Knowing the test skews the results,' it was explained to me." He shrugs. "Still, I know we will all do well."

[Shiba Raizo]

"Ah, Shika-san is an optimist..."

[Shika Nesshin]

"Indeed so!" Nesshin agrees. "It makes many things more pleasant and enjoyable."

[Moto Mitsuki]

"I mean, it's supposed to be a miai, not a single bracket, direct elimination, sumai tournament. You don't need to be better in all aspects than every other participant, just to play nice with the matchmakers. Do you think the Deer will kick you out in shame if you fold paper the wrong way during the origami contest?

...

I certainly hope they won't because I know nothing of origami."
