(D2, ME) Erratic Love (Play)

"In truth, I feel everyone was portrayed..."

Sakura hums. "Kaiu Haruko aside, all the characters felt more like representatives of their Clans rather than characters in their own right. Personally, I prefer it when characters in plays and pillow-books alike are portrayed as... more than simply the common perception of their heritage."

She smiles slightly. "The Miya was the one other character who avoided that, I feel."

He nods, confessing in agreement, "I didn't want to... eto... talk down the play. But, I do feel like pillowbook characters, and those stories themselves, kind of lack excitement, and... epicness."

[Kitsu Moshumaru]

As the play finished, Emiko chuckled softly. It had been quite comedic but overall worse than the previous night. She looked to the Kitsu next to her and asked "what did you think Kitsu-sama?"

Said Kitsu gave an elated sigh.

"Wonderful. Oh, you mean the play?"

Smooth, his ancestors would sarcastically announce.

"Have you ever overlooked a gempuku? I have once, and there was one student practicing poetry. He repeated the same haiku five times, changing one word each time, and declared his poetry complete."

"This...." he hesitated before continuing, "This play feels like the work of that student. Perhaps I should look into the author - how did you find it?"

[Nekoma Jae]

"Mhm... lets see, A Bird In Winter's Flight is a very nice story, a drama with a bit of tragedy, romance; it's a Crane samurai's dealing with falling in love during his time at Winter Court , but there's jealousy, political intrigue, threats of dueling. If you'd like something more martial-focused and less court focused, Sunrise of Thunder Pass is a small group holding a pass against a much larger army. A lot of time was taken to make the 'combat' on stage impressive for the audience."

"I believe it," Nesshin says. "But what would you go to watch? Or, better, what would you want to put on, and what role would you play, and why?"

He leans in slightly, his interest clear.

"Mhm... I think I'd prefer Birds in Winter's Flight, story-wise it's more complex. I would probably like to play Daidoji Anko, she's a yojimbo of one of the samurai at the winter court. She's one of the ones that ends up involved in the duel, but has to weigh the duty of her station with the fact that she has grown to be friends with the other person involved during their time in court. It's sort of a tragic role, but I like that it might make the audience question who they're rooting for, or what the best outcome is."

After the play, Jae quirks her head very slightly. "That was an interesting play... What did you think, Shika-san?"

He laughed, "It's a miai, so a little talk of marriage is probably expected. But if you prefer to talk about penetration in a more private setting, I would not object." The mischief in her eye was met with with a playful smirk.

"We are at a miai, Kitsu-san, at least embrace the possibility of romance," the ronin gives a great, put-upon sigh, "Gifts, poetry, a basic compliment or two. Surely such is not so much to ask from such a proficient wordsmith as yourself?"

She nods towards the stage. "However are you to find yourself a true relationship if you are not willing to at least go so far as Miya-sama, mm?"

[Shika Nesshin]

"I think the Miya is in for some confusing times ahead," Nesshin replies. "If Haruko is so...influenced that she is taken to be possessed, well, that can hardly be the person she truly is, and the Miya is proposing marriage to someone other than he fell for."

He shakes his head. "He's a good man, and his proposal'd almost certainly be accepted--he's Imperial, after all, so attractive even if less good-hearted--but he's likely to find himself in worse circumstances than he'd like. Although," and here, he sits up a bit, "a sequel might be an interesting thing to see; the drama that would unfold from the mismatch might be well worth watching.

"But you'd know more of that than I, I think, Nekoma-san. I'd love your take on it."

Again, he leans in, making his interest clear.

If they keep up like this, I might stop showing showing up to leave my evenings free to...

Raizo frowned.

What the FUCK do I do with my spare time now that I actually have some?

Luckily, he had some experience in stifling his frustrations with life, the universe, and everything, and thus he didn't start breaking things.

But he did quietly rise and take his leave.

Those things don't come to those that put in no effort. Reaching a destination too quickly is boring, and you strike me as someone that knows how to enjoy life."

"I overlooked many gempukkus in the last year, the Otter is extremely small and the champion and daimyo of the Otter all oversee the gempukkus, so I was there too" Emiko nodded "I can remember my own gempukku too! The sensei put colourful rocks at the bottom of the river, and we had to fetch them. I got very confused" she chuckled "the play was...it was ok. I don't really think it was as good as yesterdays though."

"Yeah, that would be more...real?...but it wouldn't really fit the farce. Maybe the sudden resolution is part of that, a comment that there's something to poke at even in what seem the kindest gestures."

He shrugs.

"Might be other things to poke, too. I don't know, though." But he grins; he knows something, at least.
