"You can't, of course," Nesshin replies. "But you can recognize what is in your heart, as can others."

Hikimasu listened but didn't agree.

"People give you their experience, but it was twenty years ago, brushed over with nostalgia until the tint is something unrecognizable to someone who recalls it more honestly." The scorpion shrugged, the hem of his black and red kimono swayed slightly.

[Kitsu Murato]

"Well, three years ago. My aunt is much younger than my mother," he says with a chuckle. "And one thing a memory can be relied on for is feelings. Because it's generally a strong feeling that leads to something being memorable."

[Shosuro Hikimasu]

"As you say, then", he managed. He didn't believe it at all, because he knew how poorly other people recalled things that happened less than a year ago, and how they'd retold the story to be what they wanted, rather than what it was. He felt the same was true especially when giving someone else advice, the best lies use experience because there are grains of truth, and witnesses to solidify the illusion if it also benefits them.

Being a Shosuro, he knew even the honorable records of history has the same tendency.

So, not lippy like the other one, Nesshin thinks as he follows the exchange. Lippy differently.

"The Deer certainly hope their guests come away from this with new connections," he says, "and perhaps new insights."

[Kitsu Murato]

He nods to Shika's hope. "I am sure there will be plenty. Plenty of people will be present at this miai if I understand correctly."

[Shika Nesshin]

"Several dozen," Nesshin agrees. "Including the three of us, of course. Several from each of the Great Clans, as well as members of the Imperial Families, which is an honor. Even a governor from Otosan Uchi, if I recall correctly what the Lord Shika said."

[Shosuro Hikimasu]

"I met this governor, a boy, really", Hikimasu added. "Not entirely foolish for being so young, but young just the same." He looked around a little. "One hopes he listens to whatever advisors are present with him, and not the other visitors. They have their own agenda."

[Shika Nesshin]

Nesshin nods. "I met another Seppun. An astrologer. I wonder if they're advising the governor despite being a participant..."

Nesshin trails off. He stands as tall as he can, looks around. Vigilance while on patrol, of course, even if courtesy to the guests of the Clan is needed.

Seeing nothing, he nods, returns to the talk.

"I haven't met him yet, but my father mentioned a new governor in the Imperial city before I left. I'll want to meet him eventually."
