Skills are 2 x the rank you are going for, paying each step of the way.
Rings are 3 x the rank you are going to, paying each step of the way.
Techniques that you have access (So the rank one varieties of the tech you can get in to, plus any of the ones listed in your school's rank 1 curriculum) are a flat 3 points

If you spend xp on things that are in your school's curriculum, you get full points for advancing to the next insight rank.
IF you spend xp on things not in your school's curriculum, half of that counts towards advancing to the next rank.
Rings are never in curriculum, so they always count for half.
20 qualifying xp spend to get to rank 2. So if you only spend on things in your school's curriculum, you'll hit rank 2 at the end of this game.


Some other notes:

You'll be getting 4 xp at the start of Day 4. With that you could buy:

1) 2 rank 0 skills to rank 1
2) 1 rank 1 skill to rank 2
3) 1 rank 0 skill to rank 1 and save 2 xp for boosting a ring from 1 to 2 next session
4) 1 rank 0 skill to rank 1 and save 2 xp for boosting a rank 2 skill to rank 3
5) 1 Technique and save 1 xp for next session
6) Buy nothing and buy a rank 3 skill to rank 4 next session.

As I told Sai via the hateful medium of Facebook, something like the 4E "Obtuse" disad would probably fit better in terms of things that are actually bothering Raizo... I mean, unlike Obtuse, Raizo does appreciate some of the finer things, but he's very bad at articulating or expressing it...

Yeah that's the plus side of all passions/anxieties/adversities working the same basic way within their groups is it's easy to make a custom one to fit the character.

Reading it over... it's a lot closer than the neophobia they tagged with cynicism.

Raizo's case is a bit milder than the thing as presented- he CAN enjoy art and beauty- he's more frustrated with his own ineptitude and the gaping holes in his personal education- but that feels like a reskin and maybe a minor tweak...

It certainly fits better than anything I found in Path of Waves, Fields of Victory, Courts of Stone, or Emerald Empire

Part of Obtuse is in the adversity Fukurokujin's Curse, though that's just "academics," so... ymmv.

Ishi's packing that and Cynicism, really because I could make the fluid work with this character. When we get to Fire events, he's going to be having a bad day. And Air and Void will be worse!

Proposed new Anxiety for Raizo: As Obtuse in the Shadowlands book, but it doesn't apply to when he he's trying to analyze or react to the emotions of others, but rather when he's trying to convey his own.

Might not be the most on-point for standard "On is all" types, but but I think it's the cloest to a strife-inducing psychological condition for my boy...

'Cause Raizo can Shiba the strife of others away pretty handily in Earth mode
