Main Goal: Matrimony!

Post by Saibankan » Sat Apr 03, 2021 7:45 pm

All of you have been invited to Kyuden Shika to take place in a miai. During this time, the Deer Clan will be evaluating which matches are best for the future. It's hard to say through what means they divine this, but it has been noted that those who distinguish themselves as samurai tend to find themselves in matches that they had been hoping for: either romantically or politically.

The main measure of this this game will be courtship points. There are two ways to earn courtship points: through daily events, and through special awards.

Daily events: Each day there will be a event hosted by the Deer clan which offer the players a chance to earn courtship points. There are three possible tiers for each event. Tier A is worth 3 Courtship points, Tier B is worth 2 Courtship points, and Tier C is worth one courtship point.

The number of slots in each tier is based on the number of players participating in the event. Tier slots unlock starting from the lowest tier to the highest and then loop.

For example:

1 player participated in the event: C
2 players participated in the event: BC
3 players participated in the event: ABC
4 players participated in the event ABCC
5 players participated in the event ABBCC.

NPCs also earn courtship points in events, however their participation does not increase the number of rewards for players, and they may earn tier rewards that are not unlocked to the players due to insufficient player participation.

Special Awards: Some of these are public, some of these are not. The ways of the Deer are mysterious.

Known Special Awards:

Social Butterfly: Most successful agenda rolls: 5 points
Most Memorable: Best post in the Memorable moments thread at voted by the players: 5 points
Best Artwork: Best artwork as voted by the players: 5 points
Best Theme Music: Best music as voted by the players: 5 points
Best Description: Best post in the PC guide as voted by the players: 5 points
Naval Assistance: Vote by the players based on whatever criteria they want: 5 points.

Player votes will be tallied before the final day, although players may vote in their private forum at any time, and may even change their vote before voting closes. Under no circumstances may a player vote for themselves. NPCs do not vote.

Before the last day, points will be totaled, public and private and from highest to lowest, those players may choose whom they want the Deer to match their character with. It should be noted that same-sex pairings are just acceptable a result for the miai as not. Generic no-name samurai is an available option to anyone who gets to choose. NPC candidates will have point totals, and should they exceed player counts, they'll choose as befits them and their goals. Ties in courtship points will be broken first by Status, then Glory, then Honor.

So now that you've picked your spouse, what happens?

The player who has the higher courtship points of the two chooses who marries into whose family.

The default arrangement would be that the lower status samurai marries into the higher status samurai's household. Arranging such a beneficial match for your family grants the lower status samurai a status boost, moving them halfway between where their status is, and their spouse's status. So for example, a status 40 samurai would marry into a status 50 samurai's household and move to status 45. Being able to draw upon your spouse's authority isn't as good as having your spouse's authority...but it's definitely nice.

In the event that a higher status individual is married into a lower status samurai's family, the higher status member loses status until it is the equal of their lower status spouse. So a status 50 samurai marrying into a status 40 samurai's family would set their status to 40, as they give up access to their powerful connections to make the match work. However, people will speak of the love that drove them to such a dramatic change of position, and they will gain glory equal to the status that they lost.
