Question on the new Strife reduction options:
New opportunity spends for reducing strife:

Water/Medicine: : Reduce the strife of another person through a variety of medical means (herbs, massage, acupuncture, therapy, moxibustion, etc.) This reduces their strife by 2. They may only benefit from one such attempt per day (even if the attempt is unsuccessful, they may not try again on the same day.)

Void/Meditation: : Reduce your strife by 2. You may only do this once per timeslot, and not in a thread where you are in an event, pushing an agenda, pursing a passion, or sleeping.

Are these like specific rolls for these purposes, and then you roll vs TN 1 and can use opportunities for these effects if you pass? Or are they TN 0 rolls? Or am I misunderstanding and they are opportunities that can be used whenever you roll Water/ Medicine or Void/ Meditation? (I assume not especially with the wording on the Water one, but doesn't hurt to double check! :) )

I forgot to add the TN. It's TN 2. And these are specific rolls for that purpose, yes.
Also - that seems to be the only specified way to use Meditation to reduce Strife, since (as I asked before, I think!) there are no defined rules to use Meditation for Strife recovery... right?

Yes, which is why this has been added.
And finally - they can be used only once per roll (i.e. not Opportunity symbol+), right?

Yes, that's why I wrote Opportunity symbol without the plus.
As a minor comment - this makes Void/ Meditation slightly less useful for recovery than a thread (or no thread) dealing with your Passion. Is that on purpose?

It is. Passions give you interesting hooks to roleplay with other people "Hey, come drink sake/tea, go horseback riding with me!" You sitting about gazing at your navel is not interesting to anyone but you.
Thanks!

You're beary welcome.
EDIT: Oh also, one more since we're on Strife - can we use the Earth and Water opportunities that relate to Strife recovery (removing 2 strife from oneself with water and from someone else with Earth) in sparring threads? They're not 'GM mandated rolls', so I'd guess not, but since they're roll-heavy threads, maybe it'd make sense to allow it? Just wanna make sure where you stand :)

My original ruling on this was no. But it does make sense that you can blow off steam by sparring. My revised ruling is thus: You an go ahead and trigger Earth and Water opportunities when sparring in the dojo for recovering strife.

However. if I see a couple of people slap fighting: ie They 're just staying in Earth/Water stance and keeping nothing but clean opportunities for the sole purpose lowering strife, I reserve the right to have Zang-sensei come in and show them what fighting is REALLY all about because they apparently don't know how to hit people properly. They will come out of this much more tired, believe me.

Two things here:

A) Thanks for all the answers! I actually think these uses of Medicine and Meditation might become a thing even in TBT, sound like good idas!

and B) Allowing these opps in sparring sounds cool, but what I mostly wanted to say is I now I REALLY WANNA SEE Zang-sensei come in to interrupt a slap fight XD

Fire and Strife!

Is there any way to use Fire opps to strife out my opponent in Go? Cause...Sakkaku loves the opps and I'd love to make the opponent walk away in disgust as Inoshishi won't shut up.

In a normal game of go, yes. In the event, that is basically what you're doing when you're hitting the TN on the fire route. I think adding opps to reduce the time even more would be a bit much, so gonna rule no on this one.

Question I guess I should have asked before rolling but I noticed as I saw another post in the event. But does the water game move reduce the number of Successes needed for the killing blow?

I assumed since all the other moves listed a TN but that one explicitly did not that the water move didn't work on it.

It does work. Killing blow has a TN of 2, it's just written out as 2 successes.
