Kyuden Shika

Tanabe was no avid hunter but on the river it was more a matter of survival than sport. He wandered through the woods and eventually found tracks for a large animal probably a young boar. he moved through the forest with quiet steps, unexpectedly subtle for one usually so loud.

he found the beast rooting for food Tanabe said a quick prayer to the kami and then let his ax fly burying itself deep in the neck of the large animal. He pulled out and cleaned his ax before hanging up and draining the animal. When it was good to transport the large Badger slung the boar across his broad shoulders and brought it back to the starting point.

You may make a number of Any/Survival rolls up to your Vigilance value at TN 1. However, you only get to score the last roll you make, as you let the earlier ones go to keep with the hunt's restriction of one target.

Bayushi set off into the woods with his bow, knife, and daisho, in no particular direction and not really paying apparent attention to anything. Roughly an hour later he returned, nary a stray blade of grass or drop of mud on his darkened crimson garb. He presented a seven-pointed emerald and grey leaf with subtle purple veins to Shika Zang.

"A Widow's Leaf," Bayushi explained. "It can be refined for medicinal purposes, or as poison."

Damp weather in the woods. Truly not an ideal environment for Shizuka who, in concession to reality, dressed in more practical attire for this occasion rather than risk injury or stains by tromping about the forest in juni-hitoe and tall sandals.

Now, Shizuka wasn't exactly a wilderness survival expert. But what she was, was creative.

And the forest had a lot to offer up in terms of bounty, given it had been raining for a while. Admittedly, it was mostly mushrooms, mosses, and the like, but Shizuka could work with this...

So aside from returning with the rarest fungi she could find (and she reckoned it was suitably impressive, since she hadn't found too many...) she also came back with a mushroom bouquet.

...Most of it probably wasn't edible. But it was, uh, creative?

While others go off to forage, or with bow and spear, Yoshi settles down on the bank of a pond and casts his line, pulling out his kizeru to puff as he waited. "They said a single animal. And a fish is an animal, no?"

The line dangles in the water, and he waits patiently. He gets a nibble, but the fish is tiny. Yoshi replaces the hook, setting it in the fish's eye to use as bait for a bigger fish. In the end though, that's all he gets and he takes in his tiny fish.

Aimi spends a long time standing there, in the rain and the gloom, staring out at the forest. She looks at Shika Zang. She looks back at the forest.

"I have a better idea," she says, sitting down and drawing a small flask of sake from inside her flowing sleeves. She pulls the cork out with her teeth, takes a brief sip to confirm that the drink within is of proper quality, hums in satisfaction and then pours a generous measure out onto the forest floor.

The ground ripples for a moment, like the surface of a lake... and then sprouts a generous if eclectic mixture of herbs, fungi, fruits and rice that Aimi collects with a murmured prayer of thanks. A moment later and the ground is barren again, the stalks and branches receding back beneath the earth.

"Shika-sama, I wish to submit this as the product of my gathering expedition," Aimi says with a serious face, depositing the food before the Deer sensei before nodding to herself in satisfaction. Was it cheating? Probably, but if the choice was between cheating and going hungry, well, she'd make that bargain before.

So the invocation produces, with that one opportunity, enough food to feed four people for a day. I have no idea how that would be scored, but it means Aimi isn't tramping about in the woods and getting soaked, so I'll call it a win.

Having stepped into the wood to falk, Kheree was searching for what to hunt, and then as she walked and a feeling of peace overcame her, she put away her bow and walked deeper into the forest, her raving having fallen silent , before she saw in the distance a great doe and buck.
Mindfull of the order that had been given she openly aproached them and then bowed before them , offering them treats from her pockets .
and after they got used to her , she softly took place on the doe, and guided her back to the place where the deer clan was awaiting her return

Zang checks each participants offerings as they go back inside of the kyuden to clean themselves up and dry off. There was quite the diversity of offerings, and a couple of very surprising offerings. Zang stroked his beard as he considered the meaning behind each of them.
