(D10, MM) Looking for Love (Event)

Post by Saibankan » Sat Aug 28, 2021 7:37 am

Shika Zang looks out the castle's front gate as the rain continues to come down.

"Quite a wet day for a hunt no? If a couple of samurai were to return empty handed and surprisingly dry, well strange things happen in the woods they say." he offers with a slight grin.

"There are a couple of restrictions on the hunt. We ask that you only bring back a single animal or plant. Yes, rare plants in the woods are acceptable for those who do not wish to draw the blood of animals for a hunt. It should go without saying, but the deer of the forest are strictly off-limits. If the forest doesn't get you for hunting them, rest assured, the clan will. Welp, off you go, I'll be waiting here to judge the results of your hunt."

Rules;

You may make a number of Any/Survival rolls up to your Vigilance value at TN 1. However, you only get to score the last roll you make, as you let the earlier ones go to keep with the hunt's restriction of one target.

Scoring:

Most successes on a single roll
Most opportunities spent on showing off.
Least number of rolls.
Highest Status
Highest Glory
HIghest Honor
Non-Human * Gamemaster * Headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy * Mastermind

Well. I can't pretend I don't know how to do this.

Raizo looked out into the rain abstractedly.

Hell with it.

He carried no weapons beyond his daisho, opting instead to scrounge up some plants.

His first "quarry"... was a pretty mediocre one, all told.

Let's try that again. Worst that happens, I go back empty-handed. Pretty sure I'm in no position to impress the Deer anyhow.

His second was a bit... less impressive, but by that point he no longer cared.

Fuck it. Hope they like this mushroom.

Carries his katana in an old, drab, battered saya. As of Day 13, wears a delicately carved bracelet of wooden beads polished smooth, laced through with red, yellow, and orange string and a small Phoenix token.
Standard gear: Ceremonial Clothes and a daisho. When in his element, ashigaru armor, a naginata, and a more relaxed form of terror are added into the mix.

Hello, I'm Isengrin. Isengrin the wolf. You may have heard of me from scrolls such as Le Roman de Renart or Gunnerkrigg Court.

So I'm a wolf. Us wolves are very clever animals, with a deep understanding of the concept that the group is stronger than the sum of its individuals. Thanks to that, we can hunt animals several times our size with ease, and even stand a chance against bears, tigers, apes. Though we try to avoid fighting them as much as we can. Because, as I said, we're not dumb.

Wolves are so high on the evolutionary scale we've colonized the whole world, only with minor differences in build and color, though for category-obsessed people it's enough to label and treat us differently. I'm of course talking here about the other species of social hunters that has conquered the world: the humans.

Or the two-legged enslavers as I like to call them. Did you know these people capture wolves, then force them to fuck their mother, then grandmother, then great-grandmother, until is born a pup so degenerate they can mold it into obeying their every orders?

It's disputable if this is worse or better fate than the other treatment that awaits a wolf that meets a human: Death. Guess the world's too small for two alpha predators.

(also, please stop using us to justify your "alpha male" theory; that's just not at all how wolves behave; for what do you take us really?)

In a pack against pack fight, humans are sadly assured to have the advantage against us. Very ingenious of you to use pointy sticks to compensate for your lack of claws I must say.

When you're dumb enough to forget you are social animals and to enter the woods in groups of one, here however we stand a chance. For all your brain, you still only have two eyes and so many blind spots.

Well, four counting the ones of your strange antlers-less deer slave. But we very much know how to defeat that kind of beasts, with lightning bites at its weak spots and never letting go. The both of you stand no...

...

Wait, deer are supposed to be wary of us, not to lead the charge against us! What the f...

Here ends the tale of Isengrin the wolf, ran over by what we know now is called a 'horse'. His death was the hard price we had to pay to learn that the humans have enslaved more than wolves and docile food stock.

Koi felt alive this morning, she stood in a forest that had been calling her for enter it for a while. She had always felt alive when in a forest, the sound of the birds, the scents of the plants and animals. Though her most favourite aspect was that she felt seperate to all the world when in the woods.

Upon her turn Koi vanished into the woods, following the dirt paths created by animals as they make their way through the foliage. She collected a branch from a tree, hardwood which she fashioned into a spear.

Until she found a small creek of fresh water and noticed that small hoove prints in the mud fresh too. A good point to hunt, she found the branches over the clearing to be quite sturdy and hung high enough to keep her hidden but low enough not to kill her should she fall.

The rain helped, it masked her scent. Pulling the cloak over her head to offer her shelter the Moth waited. Patiently. Allowing the forest to return to normal. To settle. To flow naturally. In the distances she head the movements of others, which would push bigger more vigilant game towards her.

30 minutes nothing Koi remind still, her legs fine. She fashioned a small knife at the end of the spear to make it more deadly, tying it with some line she uses for fishing. Tightly.

1 hour nothing. Discomfort settled in, but Koi held to form holding the spear in her hand calmly making sure it was secure.

1 and half hours the tree line burst open from the left of where Koi came in, a large boar with gnarly tuskes the cold of the rain and the heated breath of the hog puffed into the air as it trotted to the creek to get a drink and to cross.

Koi shifted slightly as the boar came underneath her to drink, it was a bit out of the way but Koi could adjust for that. She took a deep breath and prayed holding her spear downward as she dropped from the branch.

No scream, no cry just a soft whoosh as Koi fell plunging the blade of the spear through the neck to the boar. Koi quickly pulled the blade out as she stood up and moved back getting out of the way of the boar as its hideous squeal filled the clearing until it became gurgled.

Moving forward to its right side trying to keep to it blind side the Boar turned, trying to find who wounded it as it's blood filled the ground. Koi moved again, shifting position to get higher ground waiting as it charged her missing her.

She didn't have to wait long as a large gush of crimson pooled from the boar before it dropped to the ground.

Koi this petite woman, returned with a fashioned spear and a boar to offer as her hunt.

Murato, knowing very little of local plant life, simply wanders around looking at different flowers that may be out during this constant rain. Any that were likely weren't special or uncommon.

Mostly its just a leisurely stroll, where he stops to smell the flowers. Eventually he picks one and brings it back. Some common plant plant that is not interesting at all.

Yuzu looked at Shika Zang with some disdain. Another stupid trial. One that requires a low skill, in fact. To bring him a dead animal, or to burrow one's fingers into the dirt. That's unbecoming of a samurai in times of peace.

Taking a deep breath, the young Seppun looks to the skies and provides a silent prayer to Onnotangu. When his name is called, he shouts, "BAAAAANZAAAAAI!!" and runs into the forest like a maddened warrior.

It doesn't take long, and he finds a large boar. Well, it is an extinct Minor Clan. So, there it goes. He shoots the dagger into the animal's skull and it is a perfect strike. A clean kill.

Being rather too large to be carried, Yuzu returns empty handed, and asks the aid of the helping Deer that Zang mentioned would be there to carry the beast back.

Kitsuki Hajime was no hunter. Indeed, he was not really an outdoor person, but since fate had rather conspired to demonstrate that those tasks which had been assigned to him were not his strong suit, he must instead do his utmost to prove that he had the ability to be flexible.

He took a tack from the course in shadowing a criminal and approached the rabbit downwind. It functioned well enough, and he ended up carrying a live rabbit back to the castle and depositing it in Shika Zang's lap. But it wasn't terribly flashy, and Hajime felt confident that others would be doing quite a bit better than he.

Bo had never been much of a hunter, killing wasn't really his strong suit even if he did not have the same hesitation towards animals as he did towards his fellow people. But he did know cooking and that meant knowing your way around plants and fungi and, with enough patience and diligence, he found some
rather delicious, and non-toxic, mushrooms to return with. He was sure others would manage more spectacular fare, and briefly pondered searching more, but, in the end, decided it was better to go with his gut than take unnecessary risks.

Yes! Nesshin thinks as he is assigned the task, taking up his spear and vanishing into the woods he's known since he could walk.

Swiftly enough, he sights a small feral pig, probably something that one of the farmers let slip. I could go for that, he thinks, but let's see if something better doesn't come along. So he presses on.

He is startled by a deer leaping out across his path, and his spear reflexively rises--but he stops himself short. "Pass on in peace, brother," he says, and looks for other quarry.

Soon, soon, Ah, yes!. He lets his spear fly, pinning a large game bird to a tree as it is in mid-flight. The point hits the fowl's neck, giving a clean kill, and the bird itself will be a good meal for somebody tonight.

He retrieves his quarry and proceeds back to the gate.

Not bad for these hands.
