"Let me guess: hold the portal?" Nesshin asks.

It's the dojo he studies at, after all, and Zang-sensei might as well always have been sensei.

"No, it started with me being the yojimbo and having half the kids protect me and the other half try to kill me. When it was down to just me and one yojimbo, I took up a spear and we both did hold the portal." They paused, rubbing their shoulder gingerly. "I'm not going to feel great in the morning."

Nesshin chuckles knowingly.

"Few do, especially the first time. My first time, I drew a bruise I wore for a week. Second time, I took a shot right in the bits."

He shakes his head. "Zang-sensei gave me a hundred heartbeats to recover."

"That's a little over a minute depending on how quick your heart's beating, so that's not too bad, I think? At least for bushi standards of rest, yeah?" Then they smirked. "Regardless, your bits certainly still work rather well after it."

"Ah, but what might have been!"

Nesshin laughs.

"Stars above..." They grumbled playfully while rolling their eyes, a smile on their face. "I'm sure it didn't hinder you in any way."

Nesshin laughs again.
