The duels are certainly one of the most attended events for spectators. Especially with rumors of the upcoming brilliant displays of taryu-jitsu. People discuss the strengths of the duelists, and of course, the miai.

Raizo left his bokken duel on a stretcher.

Murato limped his way out of the ring. Shika Zang got a glare as he followed Raizo's stretcher wherever it was going.

Mitsuki returned from her fight, wondering how the easterners had managed to change something as simple as "hitting each other with sticks" in a mess of rulings, with hits that counted, did not count, count half or double points.

Apparently she won? Not sure really. Not sure her opponent knew either. At least he seemed like a nice guy.

Yuzu was there, in seiza, observing every single match.

Before his own duel at least (as the results of it were still unknown!), Senseki stood with his arms crossed and an easy, serene expression on his face. He did flinch when he saw the result of Raizo's duel, and made a mental note to go see how the Phoenix was faring later if possible. For the hardy man he'd come to know him as, he imagined he wouldn't be seriously hurt... but it was still a surprising and somewhat unpleasant thing to happen in practice duels...

The violence just beneath the veneer of art was not lost on him - he knew how dangerous it could be... but somehow that made him appreciate the art even more. He was not an actual duellist, of course - he was a woodsman. But his time under Yoshie-sensei had given him a great love of duelling, and his time with Haruhi in the Miai even more so... and so he kept his eyes locked into all details he could of the matches.

"Hey.

Remember your trick to grab your bokken with two hands and strike in the same movement? Turns out it works quite nicely against an opponent without a shield."

The voice was Mitsuki, unfresh out of her fight, breathless and sweaty, but otherwise looking fine.

"Not sure it would have worked twice against the same opponent though... But not an issue for a duel to first strike, isn't it?"

Hikimasu watched the duel between Raizo and Murato.

He scowled.

This wasn't a battleground.

The Kitsu, by contrast, watched the Murato-Raizo duel with no qualms. It was unfortunate that Raizo-san needed treatment, but the reality of the matter was that every fight is a battleground if given enough time. He prayed quietly for both of their health and that the fortune Bishamonten would honour their duel.

Narumi is in surprisingly good spirits despite her defeat, though she frowns drastically watching the bastard Phoenix being carted out of the dojo.
She's idly rubbing the backs of her hands, which are a brilliant and angry shade of red.
