(D6, LE) Shot Through the Hart (Special Event)

Disappointed at the day's sponsored game, Yasuki Jin takes it upon himself to sponsor a Crab clan favorite: A drinking competition!

Rules: Characters will make a series of Earth/Fitness rolls at TN 1/2/3/4/5. If they are still in the game after the TN 5 check, they may keep making checks, but the TN stays at 5. Each time they roll, they must throw one bu into a sake pot in the middle of the table for luck. If they cannot do this, they must withdraw from the competition. Characters may bow out of the even any time they choose. If you fail a roll in the competition, you take fatigue equal to the TN of the roll. If you become compromised, you lose control of your sake and are out of the competition as the sake violently makes it way back out. If you take more fatigue than you have endurance, you pass out and are out of the competition. The last person standing takes home the lucky pot (and all the bu within it. Ties, that is, same number of drinks taken, are broken by status, then glory, then honor. The PC contributions will be matched with NPC contributions, but only a PC may win the lucky pot as well as a bottle of Cherry Blossom Snow sake put up by Susaki Tadasu!

[Shiba Raizo]

Well, if there's one thing I know how to do, it's make bad decisions with alcohol.

Raizo had the barkeep break one of his Koku into 5 bu- no way was he going to win this, but it was fun to screw around with this kind of thing, and anyway...

It was high time SOMEONE in Kyuden Shika held an event he had at least a shred of experience with.

[Susaki Tadasu]

A drinking contest, huh? That could be interesting. Tadasu made his way to the sake house and slipping inside with a blue porcelain bottle, he looks around for the host after taking a glance at a few of the other samurai present. He was in auspicious company...probably...maybe...or they were all alcoholics. But that was fine, nobody is perfect.

After a moment spent clearing his throat, the Otter raised his voice above a bit of the clamor and set the bottle he brought with him on top of the table near the lucky pot.

"As a gesture of thanks to Yasuki-sama for sponsoring this competition, I hereby offer this bottle of Cherry Blossom Snow sake as an additional prize to the victor! Kampai!"

He scoops up the first drink and slams it back with a grin, setting his cup down and awaiting the next pour. The second is met as easily as the first and the sake slides down his throat with a familiar burning sensation. Stuff isn't too bad. It would seem even three drinks is not even to quench the one-armed man's thirst...but the fourth...whoo, the fourth hits like an angry Matsu, fire all the way down and punching his stomach angrily. He flips over his cup on the table, signalling that was all he was going to take, looking a little rosy cheeked.

[Asahina Bo]

Bo was not much of a drinker at heart - he did not especially care for the effects it had on him... though that was more often stomach upset from the sheer quantity required to really start to impact his massive frame.

Despite that Bo was still old hat at drinking and drinking games since others loved to cajole him into such antics and Bo was rarely one to deny another's request. Atarashi, especially, was known to abuse Bo's naivete to make a good deal of coin betting on the big Crane though Bo was, of course, unaware of this intent.

Bo makes it five rounds deep before he feel a familiar gurgling. Though he may not be bright he still knows to listen to his body and he holds steady after having contributed his money to the pot and watches to see who joins, or surpasses, him.

[Moto Mitsuki]

Hard liquor is very important to the culture of Ujik people. They offer it to their gods, they rekindle the sacred fire with it, they disinfect their wounds with it, they use it in solution to clean up their traditional face paints, and they drink a lot of it.

And, while Mitsuki had huge respect for Ujik culture in general, the last point did feel to her as a huge case of "it's not because it's tradition it's not dumb as fuck", and one of the main reasons the Ujik had eventually dissolved within a clan of tea-drinking people.

So she stopped asking for refills as soon as she felt she was approaching her limit. And her limit was quite low, maybe due to her lack of extra body mass.

How drunk she would choose to appear to the world, that was another story. What were binges good more if you call not at least pretend to be inebriated to get a free pass with things that would have been deemed unappropritate otherwise?

[Kuni Yasu]

Yasu felt a little bit obligated to help hold up the reputation of the Crab in this regard...also, the archery competition had been a bit frustrating. Given the cost of entry, she hoped Jin was at least serving up something good.

It packed enough punch to be considered strong, at least. But Yasu'd certainly had stuff at least as strong out with her Hida cousins. Even so, two cups was right at that pleasantly buzzed level, three was feeling like bad decisions could certainly become part of the evening. Five and she knew she was set for the night. after slamming the drained cup back onto the table, she waved off a sixth pour and headed over to watch the remaining show. She'd regret the wasted coin in the morning, but for now? She'd feel no pain of any sort and loved the entire world.

[Susaki Tanabe]

Tanabe was no stranger to sake and enjoyed a good drink as much as anyone else. He remembered many good nights (and almost certainly can't remember just as many) out on the river sharing drinks with friends and more than one night in Sake houses much seedier than this one doing a very similar thing as he was tonight. He smiled at Yasu and the big Asahina who had stuck it out this far with him.

He took his fifth shot and it all sort of hit him at once, that dizzying heady feeling. he stared at the sixth shot for a while before shaking his head and walking, with a little bit of stumble, away from the table leaving Murato's koku on the table.

[Shika Nesshin]

Can't pass up a chance at a drink, really.

The cervid contestant settles in, orders up, and antes up without any trouble or delay. Nesshin lifts his first cup easily, raises it to Bo, who seems, and downs it. He lifts his second, slams it back, and suddenly makes to grab a third. But he weaves as he does, and he spills the cup, which he takes as a sign to stop, now, before something terrible happens.

"Yosh!" Aimi proclaims, arriving at the sake bar to find one of her all-time favourite activities underway - a drinking contest! "Ah, a blessed sight indeed! Come my friends, let us give thanks as we drink, to all who make such fine activities possible!"

She takes a seat, tossing a bu into the pot, and in one swift motion picks up and slams back the first drink. "I give thanks to Ebisu-no-kami, in whose name we labour to build an honest thirst!"

Another bu clatters against its kin, a second drink downed with enthusiasm, "I give thanks to Daikoku-no-kami, whose blessings allow the merchants to bring us such refreshment!"

A third coin, a third cup, and still the ronin scarcely seems to be slowing down. "I give thanks to Jurojin-no-kami, who permits my poor body to endure the abuse placed upon it!"

A fourth, and people are starting to whisper now, even as Aimi's cheeks get slightly flushed and her eyes shine brightly, "I give thanks to Hotei-no-kami, for the happiness and contentment that is sharing a cup with friends and comrades!"

A fifth, though this time she pauses for a moment, before shaking her head and focusing a bit before drinking. "I give thanks to Bishamon-no-kami, for the strength to stand at night's end!"

A sixth, and she has beaten all the other contestants now, but though her eyes shine brightly and her breath is slightly slurred she does not stop, "I give thanks to Benten-no-kami, in hopes that she will watch over all those poor fools who give voice to the love in their hearts, their lips loosened by fine sake!"

And then, a seventh, downed swiftly and followed up by nimble hands flipping the cup and slamming it down onto the table with great force. "And... and finally, I give homage to... Fukurojin-no-kami, for the wisdom... erp... the wisdom to stop at the right moment."

Satisfied, the ronin sits back in her chair, grinning at everyone else present with a wide and cheerful expression on her flushed face.

[Seppun Yuzu]

The young boy had a first experience while drinking, but he never actually got drunk as he had been told by his dojo friends he should. Now, in the company of several other samurai –– and with official backup –– he indulges in the game.

The first shochu cup goes does easily. On the second, though, he spills much of the liquid and just shakes his head. Looking at Yasu, he nods, saying, "I have much to learn from the Crab."
