And when?’, so no, I wasn’t doing that, the Otter, which nope, don’t know her well enough, or Koi, which…terrible idea. I think we’re both moving on from our younger years, she doesn’t need me to drag her into this. And then you presented yourself!”

She looks in those flat, dead eyes without flinching. “I will do the work I’m asked and I will do it well. But if you see any way to discredit her, you should take it. Your clan will be the better for it.”

He didn't doubt that...if the Scorpion were interested in making a happy, honorable reputation for themselves.

He shrugged. "Discrediting a Scorpion usually helps them, or gets you in a worse situation. And more so, if you are going to do as they say, then there's little I can do for you."

She arches an eyebrow. “Even among the Scorpion, truly? Well, Togashi says that there are many ways to live that Re blessed by heaven. Does it not get…confusing?”

After another moment of pondering, she shrugs. “Then may she be found with opium and gaijin pepper.”

She smiles viciously and then pretends to change topic. “I hear the Scorpion gardens are amazing. Which are your favorite?”

Or that in the High House of Light it is said that if you strike the perfect note the world will shatter, starting with the highest spire? At least, that’s why I was told to stop singing. Or that in Phoenix lands, there’s a whole valley where everyone on the rim can hear everyone in the center as if they were standing next to them? Clearly blessed by the Air Kami. I’ve even heard rumors that those pirates, the mantis, are building an instrument that will tell us of the sounds of the ocean itself! Oh but you were going to tell me what method.”

Inoshishi busts out laughing. "A good girl. I am many things, many, many things, to many, many people, but I am almost NEVER a good girl. What do you think brought me to your friend's acquaintance in the first place! Ah, Shosuro-san, you do my heart good, I have needed a laugh.

Nevertheless, I will hold my curiosity. I am indeed interested and I look forward to whatever strange work you are doing!"

She keeps chuckling as she eats, "Good girl!"

He kept smiling throughout her admissions and claims, vague Scorpion interest marking his face. He finished the mushroom. "Perhaps that is what you should be, though. Any acts that lead a Scorpion to you should be well avoided." He gestured at her. "Case in point, your situation."

"Perhaps you are correct, Shosuro-san." She chews contemplatively on a mochi.
