[D5LA] A gathering of seers (Special)
Posted: Fri Aug 13, 2021 8:04 am
When waking up in the morning, every participant of the miai had the surprise of finding that an envelope has been slipped under their door during the night. It contains the following invitation:
Hello, astrologers, seers, fortune tellers, diviners and co! We're super excited to invite you to a meeting of people that can predict the future. There will be cake.
To prove that you're indeed a member of that select club, nothing simpler: You just have to divine when and where the meeting will take place and to come at the right time at the right place.
See you soon!
On the bottom half of the invitation stands what must have been the characters of one of the sixty standard years of astrology, written in red ink and circled, like a seal. Each invitation shows a different year, and there's no correlation between the recipient and the year (but you're free to imagine one).
must have been, because each invitation has been torn down, cutting circles and symbols in two.

This thread is closed (inaccessible) as a default. To enter and post in it, a character must succeed at one of the following approaches. You can try them all if you wish. If you fail, you can do anything else with your timeslot (since you aren't here, you can be anywhere else instead).
The expected way
The invitations are heavily spiritually charged even if no actual magic was used to make them. Thus, if one is attuned with the world, getting a vision, a feeling, an inexplicable hunch, of where and when the missing piece can be found is not that hard. Some characters might even succeed without any formal training in divination if they're spiritually inclined enough.
Roll a TN1 Theology (Void) "Divination" roll. You do not need to know the actual Divination Ritual. If your school has bonus related to divination you can apply them to that roll.
If you pass, you can enter thread.
The mundane way
The organizers are only human, and not necessarily the most subtle humans. If you ask around, you may eventually identify who they are and what they've planned.
Roll a TN2 Commerce (Fire) or Skulduggery (Fire) Investigation roll (see core book, page 170).
If you pass, you can enter thread.
The freeloading way
Each party always has someone who was expected bringing in someone who definitely wasn't. This one is not different.
If a character who has managed to enter through the Divination roll states that you are accompanying them, you can enter thread. A character may only invite up to one other character this way.
Special rule: Don't take it too seriously
This is a fluff event. If you feel like your advantage/disadvantage/technique/whatever should apply to any of the previous rolls, sure, it does. You don't need to ask about it. Same if you have an invocation/ritual/whatever that you feel could be used as a substitute for any of the proposed approaches.
Similarly, while the organizers reserve themselves the right to give dirty looks to anyone who came through any mean but the expected way, there will be no loss of Glory/Honor/whatever for that.
---
The gathering is actually hidden in plain sight, happening in a backroom of the tea house that has been booked for that purpose.
To enter, one simply needs to show their invitation to Koi, the owner, at (afternoon) tea time. She has been entrusted with the missing bottom of all the invitations, and if she finds a half that matches yours, she will then guide you to the right room.
In the room in question await tea, cake, a Moto warrior that already helped herself to a sizable portion of it, and a Seppun that will write themselves what they're doing.
