"Never been to the coast," she notes to the Asahina. "But sailing up the River of Gold was interesting, it's very busy in spots. Then Beiden meant mountains. Everything is so green, I've got to say. I wonder what it's all like in the fall."

"If it's anything like the forests back home? A stunning leafy approximation of a sunset..."

"We get some fantastic sunsets when the wind pulls up dust off the Wastes, so I can imagine that being amazing painted on the hills." Yasu smiles at the thought gaze caught by the hallway paintings once again for a moment. "Probably a lot of people try capturing that kind of thing in paintings and poems, right?"

"No idea. I may be the least cultured Phoenix in Rokugan."

Yasu offers a quizzical smile. "Really? Seems hard to survey them all to pick one like that. What's one do to become the least cultured...anything?"

Sharp eyes shift to Bo as well. "And you Asahina-san, what is it you do? Cultured or not."

Bo looks a little sheepish as he rubs the back of his large head, "Um... not... I guess. Doji-sensei got really frustrated whenever we tried ta talk art. I'm a guard now."

"And I wear out sandals marching around in the army of the Phoenix. Spend most of my nights in a tent listening to a bunch of other jerks snore nearby."

"Sounds peaceful." Yasu's smile is genuinely pleasant, no sarcasm detected, even if she does keep fiddling with the round jade beads at her wrist."Well, in between the times they're not, at least."

She looks thoughtful. "I mean, they're pretty peaceful right now, aren't they?" Yasu isn't actually sure she'd have heard about anything short of full scale war as far north as Phoenix lands. Had the Asahina had a war in living memory? She should ask Daichi.

"Oh, even peace has its strife, although admittedly nothing major. A few bandit hunts. A couple of encounters with the Yobanjin. Escorting a few Mantis back to their boats."

In a running fight.

"A couple of map-checks at the Lion and Dragon borders."

A pause.

"Nothing like what the Crab endure."

Bo listens to the Phoenix, "Oh, wow. Yeah nothin' really like that. Jukami Mura gets rowdy drunks sometimes and I mean we're always on guard just in case but Asahina-sama runs a pretty tight ship. I hear it useda be pretty rough but Asahina-sama saw to that. Otherwise we're not on a border so not much risk... well there's the border with the Fox but they're allies."
