Ah, Kemari. It was a game he had a strange relationship with - once when he was working with another clan, the Lord's son insisted on developing an experimental style of Kemari known as the "White Whip Star", which focused on balancing the ball on one's foot on various points in between juggles before passing it off in a demanding fashion.

It certainly prepared him for the game, but never instilled a joy for him.

In contrast to his cousin, the Kitsu's game is much more controlled, precise, and importantly - effective. That said, there was minimal flare in his display of control - enough to show competency, but his passion was sorely lacking in comparison to Murato.

With a sharp flick, the ball is sent high and slow to whoever it went to next.

[Suzume Senseki]

Kemari was... heard of, in Sparrow lands. The kids, and some adults, played something similar... but usually not in full court attire, of course. He understood the idea of the game and at least some of its appeal - and well, physical activities were something he generally liked, although he was generally more interested in things that could actually get work done.

One way or another, they had to do it, so he did his best... in the closest thing to court attire he had. He had to borrow a hat, and his kimono was far from a many-layered one... which actually may have helped him some. But when it came to the actual game, he felt he did... ok?

He set off from a very slow, grounded start, getting the ball off the ground carefully and going for calm, safe movements that prevented the ball from moving too quickly. After some time, however, he started going with the flow, letting his body extend and bend to reach the ball and getting it to move faster, before finally falling back to slower, firmer moves.

Looking at some of the others, he knew his performance was far from outstanding... but he though it was at least decent enough. Now if that would be deemed good enough by Shika Zang-san was another matter, of course...

[Seppun Yuzu]

Kheree's bouncing does get Yuzu quite distracted as she passes the ball over. Not completely understanding the physics of all that mojo, he finally lays eye on the kemari objective and manages to kick it.

Unfortunately, it just goes all the other way he intended. So he measures the distance and runs towards the ball before it lands on Shika Pei-Pei's head. WIth a good jump, he blocks the ball in his chest –– which was ok, but not that efficient.

Getting that one right, he closes his eyes and just kicks the ball up like it is intended for the next player.

The, he wipes the sweat off his brow.

Nesshin leaps up to field the ball from the previous player, spinning gracefully to bring a foot up under it an send it high aloft. It soars, he lands, and he springs back up with abandon, both knees catching the ball and rocketing it off to the next player.

He lands, already sweating, and he rubs his hands together as if washing them, the strain of the attempt clear.

Damn, she did good! Nesshin thinks when Oubaihime's performance registers in his mind.

[Matsu Ishioka]

Ishioka had worried about some fancy courtly challenge, especially given the title for the day's event.

He was pleasantly surprised with the actual test and, paragon of physical fitness that he is, happily plays in fancy clothes. He's not the most artistic kemari player, but he sure isn't letting that ball hit the ground on his watch.
