Emiko spent some time picking out the prettiest looking flowers and putting the piece together. It was a slightly confusing piece that didn't seem to match the mood at all, however her earnest explanation of why the flowers all perfectly matched the piece itself was enough to convince anyone.

It wasn't that Yasu didn't like flowers, they were a rare and precious thing when you'd spent most of your life in the Kuni Wastelands. She even had a solid academic understanding of both their medicinal properties and their more symbolic meanings. She could drag them into poems with an expert hand, really. With all the rain, she found a pretty nice selection of wetlands plants...cattails and spiderwort and water-loving irises.

But writing a poem was a very different thing to arranging physical flowers. Everything she'd chosen was tall, irises and cattails actually look sort of unimpressive together, and so on. None of the arrangement worked. But she *was* able to position it to work well with the other arrangements...by hiding it behind a much more impressive piece. She certainly wasn't going to convince a judge that the piece itself was any good..not even Zhang.

While Bayushi had to admit he wasn't the best at arranging flowers, he had done a quite respectable job for the occasion. And of course, he was quite convincing about how his piece evoked "the bushi's chagrin".
