The great hall has filled with a wide variety of flowers and supplies one needs to craft Ikebana displays. Unexpectedly, a somewhat uncomfortable looking Shika Zang is here, rather than Shika Pei Pei.
"Ah...so, unfortunately, Shika Pei Pei isn't able to be here today.....soooo I'll be the one judging your ikebana displays today. So...uh...good luck with the flowers and stuff." he says, out of his element.
The participants will construct ikebana displays by doing the following four steps in order:
Step 1: Determine what would be the most appropriate display right now: Earth/Culture at TN 2
Step 2: Craft the display: Fire/Aesthetics at TN 2
Step 3: Align the display to increase the harmony with the other entries: Void/Aesthetics at TN 2
Step 4: Convince the judge of the piece’s quality: Courtesy at TN 3 (Earth 4, Fire 4, Air 2)

Koi slipped into the Great Hall looking as beautiful as she ever has, she watched the hall with a careful gaze but remained calm. Flower arranging was annevent she had been expecting and frankly not wanting to do. It wasn't her favourite thing in the world. Koi wasnt a flower person.
As she begin she didnt really know what she was doing, she went through the selection of flowers and didnt find any that met the imagine in her head. I mean, who didnt have lilacs, or ferns. She thought annoyingly.
She began to select flowers - honeysuckle, jasmine, primroses and violets. Flowers she knew that would attract her Clan's representative. It wasn't anything wonderful, it was very impressive choices of flowers though and how she laid them out worked okay.
Once she finished she noticed that needed some tweaking as it stood out a bit. Grabbing some mint leaves to add some greens, it mellowed it out and blended with the others in the hall quite well but it did cause Koi to be a bit stressed.
The Moth finished and rose. "Each of these flowers chosen are used to draw the attention of butterflies and Moths, designed to be placed amongst other's pieces to help others shine." She said simply, and bowed her head.

Soyokaze was on autopilot, not because he was overconfident but because he was distracted. This should have been an easy task for him but his training and skills had failed him plenty at the Miai. His choices of plants seemingly made at random he worked at his display his hands utterly divorced from where his head was at. When he was finished he looked at the piece, it wasn't nearly his best effort but what he had made was unmistakable to someone trained in the art, he had replicated a winter arrangement using summer blooms, complete with foux winter jasmine vines in bloom. He hadn't do it on purpose, it just happened and as he gazed across the room he wondered if she or anyone else would understand it.

The judge's assistant looked at Mitsuki's... creation. And shivered. Yes, there were flowers in it. That part was right. For the rest, it could have as well have spelled Ask me once again to partake in one of your stupid trials and I'll burn this city to the ground, in capital letters, that the message wouldn't have been clearer.
Their duty was to politely take the thing, then to burn it to ashes. Maybe in the temple, with the monks praying around for the evil to be banished.
Then they looked at Mitsuki herself. A barbarian who was starting to lose it, her hands dangerous close to the blade at her hips. Maybe they misinterpreted the message after all. Maybe it was closer to If you don't give that to the head judge, I'll find you, and they will need to call the Kami to identify the corpse.
They gulped, bowed, and delivered the... abomination to Shika Zang. The guy was big enough to deal with that mess himself, without an innocent assistant being caught in the crossfire.

Murato did not care for ikebana personally. Among all the arts it seemed to most frivolous and asinine. Let the flowers grow however they want to. Paint portraits of them, embroider patterns of them, harvest them to make colors, smells and tastes for other things. But how in the hell does a person make a flower more beautiful than it already is at it's most vibrant?

It was not standard, it was not suited to the event, but something about his passionate plea about the love of natural beauty over manufactured beauty was touching. The ugly display merely illustrating the point that as a result of this event, the world was made a worse place by the premature cutting of flowers that could have been enjoyed far longer on the stem of the bush they were cut from.

Narumi was no artist. What she didn't possess in talent, she made up for with book smarts - as such, while she could tell you where every flower in her arrangement originated from, the different names, and cultural significance of each... she didn't necessarily know how to put them all together and make them look "pretty." She did know about complimentary colours, so she went with that.
In the end, her ikebana lacks any emotional punch, it tells a clinical story of a journey through Rokugan.

It is the first time Yuzu's thoughts get verbalized this loud. It is nearly visible. He shouldn't have to worry with flower arrangements when there's a duel to be won today.
Well. The first task was quite simple. He has all the inspiration in the room already. But well, they don't actually fit all together into the vase, as much as he tries to. It just looks, a bit off. Quite dashing, though. Of course, Yuzu doesn't align his piece with the others, he simply puts it ahead. Right in front of the judge.
Once Zhang is ready to listen, the boy bows to him and says, "These are the flowers I've met at Kyuden Shika. Good memories that will in time, pass away. Yet, I would like to nurture these into my very garden, so I never forget the lessons I learned while here."

He had a theme in mind, the three friends of winter. Even in another season, it was a strong idea. But, he couldn't find appropriate bamboo, the small pine he had was unimpressive and he didn't have any plumb. Overall, it was kind of sad.
